The Joan Miró Foundation is an unparalleled museum. Content of the most discreet and grandiloquent painter of the surrealist scene, Joan Miró, and mainland by the rationalist architect and Catalan urbanist Josep Lluís Sert. Definitely a MUST of the Barcelona museum panorama.
The idea of creating this foundation was born in 1968 by the artist himself, Joan Miró, who considered it important to create a space in which to know the trends of contemporary art and also wanted to make sure that his works would always be within reach of the great public.

Currently in the foundation there are more than 10,000 pieces of all kinds of artistic discipline and is the centre that has the largest collection of the author worldwide.
Before we tell you about the exhibitions you can see, we want to explain a little bit why the foundation building is so important. So, Joan Miró commissioned the construction of the building to Josep Lluís Sert, a great architect of the city.
That is why, the foundation is not only a display of the soul of Miró, but also the fusion between two of the most universal Catalan artists and that more international diffusion had.
Within the foundation you can enjoy three different spaces:
The permanent collection: In which you will see thousands of Joan Miró works ranging from the outlines of his beginnings to his latest works and those most emblematic of the artist.
The temporary exhibition you can see, is called “End of game: Duchamp, chess and avant-garde” and you can visit it until 22th January. The exhibition presents an analysis of the avant-garde of the twentieth century until the emergence of conceptual art from the perspective of chess.
Espai 13: Miró designed this room in order to permit the young emerging artists exhibit, so that they could show their works to the world and the world could be able to see the evolution of art in modernity.

4- Take the bus 150 at Plaza España – Shopping Mall Las Arenasand go down at stop Avenida Miramar – Fundación Joan Miró.
5- Once you get off the bus you will have the building of the Foundation in front of you.
